Core Tip Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) has been implicated in path?ways associated with ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), but its role in rat orthotopic liver transplantation has not yet been established. In our study, SIRT1 protein expression levels and activity increased when Institut Georges Lopez 1 (IGL-1) preservation solution was supplemented with trimetazidine, which was associated with less hepatic injury and mitochondrial damage. The increased deacetylation of FoxO1 by SIRT1 agreed with less oxidative stress and the activation of the autophagy pathway. These findings support the notion that SIRT1 up-regulation may be an effective strategy for reducing IRI and improving liver transplantation outcome.
