Core Tip |
Early identification of infected pancreatic necrosis is critical to minimizing the associated high morbidity and mortality of this disease. A high index of clinical suspicion combined with radiological evidence will guide the discerning clinician towards instituting targeted antibiotic therapy and enteral feeding in a timely manner. As soon as it is clinically feasible, minimally invasive necrosectomy should be considered to achieve definitive source control. Efficient resolution of infection is especially important for patients who require urgent treatment for other life-threatening conditions, such as colorectal cancer. |
