Core Tip |
Biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, poly(3-hydroxyalkanoates) (PHAs), are actively used for the manufacture of scaffolds that serve as carriers for mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) growth in tissue engineering. It was shown that PHAs have their own biological activity affecting MSC growth and differentiation. However, the mechanisms of the biological activity of PHAs remain unclear. In this review, we discuss the possible association of the effects of bacteria-originating PHAs on MSCs with various biological functions of PHAs in bacteria and eukaryotes, including in humans. |
