Core Tip Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major cause of liver disease worldwide. The diagnosis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, the most severe form of NAFLD, is crucial and has prognostic and therapeutic implications. However, currently this diagnosis is based on liver biopsy. In this study, we demonstrated that gadoxetic acid–enhanced magnetic resonance imaging could be useful for the evaluation of patients with NAFLD, as it allows stratification according to the probabilities of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and isolated steatosis, thereby avoiding liver biopsy in many patients.
