Core Tip |
In this systematic review including articles from the last 25-years, it was found that older esophageal cancer patients suffer from a two-fold higher risk of in-hospital and 90-d mortality as compared to their younger counterparts. In addition, subgroup analysis showed that these differences did not occur when only studies on minimally invasive esophagectomy were analyzed. This implies that minimally invasive esophagectomy may be important for minimizing morbidity and mortality in older patients undergoing curative esophagectomy. |
