Core Tip Hepatocellular carcinoma is characterized by both dysregulation of the immune microenvironment and chemoresistance. This study demonstrated that the components of Shuyu pills (SYPs) inhibit the growth of subcutaneous xenograft tumours in nude mice and act synergistically when used in combination with cisplatin (DDP). SYPs exert their effects by simultaneously inhibiting the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha and programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) and promoting that of CD4+ T and CD8+ T cells, thereby inhibiting immune escape of the tumour cells. Additionally, the programmed cell death protein 1/PD-L1 axis was inhibited, which mitigated the resistance of the tumours to DDP, thereby sensitizing them to chemotherapy.
