Core Tip |
Today, the causes of autoimmune diseases are being seriously considered. According to various studies, both genetic and epigenetic events are accounted as reasonable hypotheses for these diseases. Psoriasis is one of the most common autoimmune diseases, and studies conducted in recent decades have showed that infectious diseases caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (e.g., pharyngitis) can be associated with psoriasis. Based on studies, autoantibodies produced against streptococcal M12 protein potentially react with human keratin. Statistical analysis of the present study showed infection with Streptococcus pyogenes increases the risk of psoriasis, hence, long-term treatment as well as prevention strategies of streptococcal infections will be effective in reducing the risk of psoriasis. |
