Core Tip |
Maintaining a routine of physical activity for inpatients of closed wards in mental health facilities remains a major challenge. Long-term inactivity is a risk factor for decreased gastrointestinal motility, which leads to constipation and can affect drug absorption, as well as weight gain and related metabolic and cardiovascular disorders. In this study, implementation of a 12-wk aerobic exercise program was shown to be beneficial in reducing colonic transit time, decreasing weight and improving blood pressure. |
