Idiopathic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension and chronic portal vein thrombosis are vascular liver diseases. This review is aimed at discussing the possibility that idiopathic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (INCPH) should be suspected also in patients with portal vein thrombosis and at analyzing the possibile diagnostic tools able to differentiate these two conditions. Moreover, the review focuses on the possible and relevant clinical consquences of missing a diagnosis of INCPH between patients with portal vein thrombosis. |
